Who Are You ?
You call yourself an individual; yes you are an individual in some given meanings but is this so if the context is changed ?
Human beings define themselves differently under different school of thoughts. Some feel they are soul trapped inside a heap of mass called body; others feel they are this body controlled by brain and yet others feel they are nothing but a signal a module that under given instructions feel its existence along with the crowd and space around it.
Whatever you think you are a reality that you can't deny is that you started from two unit cells a sperm cell and an egg cell, which combined to form a multi-cellular structure.
What was that ?
To me a sperm cell is an individual and an egg cell is an individual and they were existing separately as individuals and their life span is limited. They decide to live together; they mix up and then form a colonial structure and to survive the colony starts distributing works as per requirements and inbuilt instruction manual. The structure develops and moves on according to the needs of furthering itself. The individuals in one structure are so packed and so dependent upon others that they can't leave the structure (human body).
The colony go on growing and the process of growing involves wear and tear, sadly till today there is no way to repair the structure though there are ways to replace organs yet there is no way to replace neurons. Neurons are responsible for communication between the individual cells. When this communication system breaks down the structure cease living though the individual cells remain alive till they are starved to death. Death here may be considered as a synonym of breaking down.
Now what you think you are ! is entirely your own problem but you can't deny the fact that you are not an individual but a colony.
